Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Party & Bake Sale
Saturday, November 2, 2019
Saturday, November 2, 2019
In our third annual Shoebox Packing Party, we twisted no arms or promised any favors. Our community of friends willingly showed up with shoeboxes filled to the brim with gifts and school supplies. Platters of homemade pastries lined the serving table made fresh by more than a dozen mothers and daughters. They raised over two hundred dollars to help send these shoeboxes all over the world.

Easter Celebration, Egg Hunt, & Luncheon
Sunday, April 21, 2019
Sunday, April 21, 2019
This is our second year hosting Easter Celebration and Egg Hunt in the Community Church of East Williston. A video presentation by the Creator of Veggie Tales about the meaning of Easter captured all the children's attention. Wendy then gave a short and simple message about the difference between Religion & Gospel before a gathering of 60+ people. Our children's choir had their 2nd performance - this time in bright, shiny robes. All the hard work paid off as they sang beautifully after having memorized long hymnal verses!
Our team improved the overall egg hunt experience this year. Thirty-five children together searched for more than 400 eggs in three zones, and we sent home thrilled and delighted children. Many guests found eggs with special prizes. Overall, it was a very fulfilling and successful event. |
Chinese New Year Food Fest & Least Picky Eater Contest
Saturday, February 10, 2019
Saturday, February 10, 2019
After much anticipation, 18 families gathered for another round of fun and competitive game. Close to 30 children participated in the contest and more than half completed the assignments. A tie-breaker was necessary to decide on the champions for the two older age groups. This final round tested the kids on their speed and thoroughness. A slow-mo video had to be reviewed to determine the winner for the 6-8 age group! What was the tie breaker? Auntie Grace's Yuca Stir Fry.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Party
Saturday, October 20, 2018 Taking part in Operation Christmas Child, a global mission project of Samaritan's Purse, has generated so much excitement for everyone involved. A total of 35 children came with their parents to pack shoeboxes, play group games, did a show-and-tell, learn about phone photography, and enjoyed a variety of refreshments. Watch the OCC overview video below to understand and appreciate the impact of such small acts of kindness! |
Camping Trip @ Taconic State Park
Weekend of August 17, 2018 From heavy rainfalls to finally, a time of calmness and sunshine, we had very possibly experienced one of the roughest camping expeditions. A university professor who studied both short-term and long-term exposure to nature found that spending three days in nature without any technology is enough time for the brain to fully relax and reset itself. I wonder if he factored in the effects of severe thunderstorms! But we are not deterred. We are already thinking about where to go next year. A camping trip with wild water rafting, anyone? |
Graduation & Step-up Ceremony
Sunday, July 1, 2018 We celebrated not just the end of the school year. We celebrated the CHARACTER that was shown in each child. In an intimate setting, we invited all the parents to affirm their children in the presence of friends and family. It was not an easy task to think of the most prominent character qualities for our children, even though there are 49 to choose from! A parent selected a quality that surprised us. It was an area this child has struggled the most. As her father took the podium and shared a story, we realized it was about how she has overcome and acquired a trait she had not yet possessed. Her mother's eyes then welled up. We are so proud of this bunch. You are our Character Kids. May the Lord show favor upon you all as you learn to love Him and obey His Word! |
Easter Celebration, Egg Hunt, and Luncheon
Sunday, April 1, 2018
This is our first Easter Celebration & Egg Hunt on the beautiful CCEW ground. A total of 70+ parents and children came together for a simple message about hope. "What is worse than an F (as in failure)?" asked Harry. "It's hopelessness."
Our children wondered why we don't put candies inside the eggs, and more clamored for cooler fillers. Yet, the beautiful story told while the children were out on the lawn was about a boy that offered an empty egg...because the tomb of Jesus was empty. The empty tomb has been the source of hope and inspiration for billions of souls that have ever lived!

Chinese New Year Food Fest
Saturday, February 17, 2018 Who would have thought a simple idea to get our kids to eat a variety of foods would turn into a fierce, tearful contest of 14 finalists out of 25+ children that participated? A tie-breaker was necessary to see who could finish a spoonful of bitter melon the fastest! Ten families pulled together a feat, actually, a feast, that has left many of us wonder what else to make for the kids next year. We had turnip & taro cakes, Taiwanese oyster noodle soup, red bean sticky rice cake, Fujian ice rice, chicken feet, sweet pepper pork rib, Taiwanese stir fried rice noodles, stewed pig ears, sautéed chicken hearts, and lastly...Persian lamb's head and tongue! After the event, one little girl who successfully sampled all the foods said, "Pizza is still the best." |
Christmas Celebration & Dinner Party
Saturday, December 23, 2017
This is our first Christmas event as a new church plant in Community Church of East Williston. A total of 25 families and more than 80 people came and packed the room! We were overwhelmed with joy to receive so many new and old friends. A young boy took home a guitar from the gift exchange, and told us how much he wanted to come back. "I like it here," he said, "but I have basketball on Sundays."

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Party
Saturday, November 4, 2017
It was a sweet and memorable time to see some of the children return from the Character Kids' Camp as we gathered for a festive Shoebox Packing Party. 30+ children and 20+ parents came as we learned about Compassion before separating the children into three age groups...to create something interesting. Below is what the children put together!
A few days later, I received a text from one of the parents. "It was a beautiful shoebox party and I too was moved to tears watching the video you showed. I can only hope that our kids can even catch a small fragment of the lesson in compassion! Thank you for your time and opening the event to us!”
We dropped off a total of 54 shoeboxes at a local church in Westbury for processing.
